The Kilimanjaro 6 Days Machame Route is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, offering stunning scenery, diverse landscapes, and a gradual ascent. This route is often referred to as the "Whiskey Route" due to its challenging yet rewarding experience. Over six days, you will trek through lush rainforests, moorlands, and alpine deserts before reaching the snow-capped Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
The journey starts with a drive from Moshi to Machame Gate (1,800 meters) for registration. You’ll begin the trek through the rainforest, which is filled with unique wildlife and dense vegetation. After 5-7 hours of hiking, you’ll reach Machame Camp (3,000 meters) for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
On this day, you’ll leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone. The trail is steeper, but you’ll be rewarded with fantastic views of Kibo Peak. After 4-6 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Shira Camp (3,850 meters) for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Today is a longer day of trekking, designed to help you acclimatize. You’ll ascend to the Lava Tower (4,640 meters) and then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 meters). This hike takes about 6-7 hours. Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
You’ll start the day by climbing the Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical ascent. After reaching the top, the trail leads through alpine desert terrain as you make your way to Barafu Camp (4,640 meters). The day’s trek takes 6-8 hours, and after an early dinner, you’ll rest in preparation for the summit attempt.
Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Mweka Camp
The summit attempt begins at midnight. You’ll trek through the darkness, reaching Stella Point (5,739 meters) at sunrise. From there, a final push brings you to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, you’ll descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) for dinner and overnight. The total trek today takes 10-14 hours.
Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast, you’ll make your final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters). Upon arrival, you’ll receive your summit certificates before being transferred back to Moshi, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
