Kilimanjaro 5 Days Marangu Route | Prehemy Tours
Mount Kilimanjaro - Tanzania Trekking Package More > 1 Group
The Kilimanjaro 5 Days Marangu Route, also known as the "Coca-Cola Route," is the most popular and straightforward route on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the only route that offers hut accommodation, making it a more comfortable option for climbers. This trek allows you to experience the unique ecosystems of Kilimanjaro, from lush rainforests to high-altitude deserts, while enjoying stunning views of the mountain.
Although the Marangu Route is considered easier than other routes, proper acclimatization is crucial for a successful summit. The 5-day itinerary is designed to allow climbers to adjust to the altitude while enjoying the journey to Uhuru Peak.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Your adventure begins with a drive from Moshi to Marangu Gate for registration. From there, the trek starts through the lush rainforest, where you may spot various bird species and monkeys. After approximately 4-5 hours of hiking, you will reach Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Today’s trek takes you from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720 meters), a journey of about 5-6 hours. The trail ascends through heath and moorland, offering views of Mawenzi Peak. You’ll arrive at Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight, where you can enjoy the stunning sunset.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
Today is set aside for acclimatization. You can hike to the nearby Zebra Rocks (4,000 meters) for a better view of the surroundings, returning to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight. This day is essential to prepare your body for the higher altitudes.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Begin your ascent toward Kibo Hut (4,703 meters) after breakfast. The trek lasts about 5-6 hours as you transition into the alpine desert zone. Upon arrival, enjoy dinner and rest at Kibo Hut, where you’ll prepare for the summit attempt.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Marangu Gate
Your summit attempt starts around midnight. The climb to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) takes approximately 6-8 hours. After reaching the summit and taking in the breathtaking views, you’ll descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Marangu Gate. Expect a total trekking time of about 12-15 hours on this final day.
