Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

On the first day, you’ll enter the lush rainforest at the Lemosho Gate. The trail is gradually ascending, giving you the chance to enjoy the vibrant green environment and wildlife. Overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp), surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the forest.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1

Today’s trek takes you from the rainforest zone into the moorland zone. As you ascend, you will notice the terrain becoming more open and exposed, with fantastic views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Overnight at Shira Camp 1, where you can enjoy a magnificent sunset over the plains below.

Day 3: Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2

The third day is a short hike designed for acclimatization. You’ll trek to Shira Camp 2, located on the western side of the mountain, where the views of the Shira Plateau are spectacular. The landscape is dominated by alpine meadows and wildflowers.

Day 4: Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp

Today’s trek is a bit more challenging, with a steep climb to the Barranco Wall, a natural obstacle on the route. The climb is demanding but rewarding, providing dramatic views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. You’ll arrive at Barranco Camp, a favorite campsite due to its breathtaking views and unique location.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, begin the day by navigating the Barranco Wall, an exhilarating section of the route. Once at the top, you will continue to Karanga Camp, passing through alpine desert terrain. Karanga is a popular stop for climbers due to its excellent facilities and the opportunity to rest before the final summit push.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

The trek continues today with a gradual ascent towards Barafu Camp. Barafu is the base camp for the final summit push and provides a stunning view of the summit crater and Mawenzi Peak. Prepare for the long and demanding summit day, as it’s essential to rest and hydrate well before the climb to Uhuru Peak.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Summit day begins at midnight. You’ll hike through the night, ascending steep terrain to reach the summit at Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. After reaching the peak and celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for an overnight stay.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

On the final day, you’ll descend through the lush rainforest zone to Mweka Gate. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with certificates of achievement to commemorate your successful summit. You’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
